Holiday Twin Drive-In Theater's History

The Holiday Twin Drive-In Theater originated as a single screen theater in 1968.  The second screen was added in 1976.  Paul Corey, the original owner, sold the Holiday Twin and adjoining property in 1979 to the current owner, Wesley Webb.  At that time there were two other drive-in theaters in the Fort Collins area, both single screens.  The Sunset  Drive-In had just been sold and was being dismantled for commercial development.  The Pines Drive-In was still operating and continued to do so until the mid 1980's when it was sold for development purposes.  At the time Webb purchased the Holiday Twin Drive-In, the distance to the nearest residential area was nearly one-half mile.  Today there are houses on three sides.

In 1979 there was no water available on the drive-in property and the cost of commercial water delivery was exorbitant.  A truck with a 1200 gallon tank was purchased to haul water to the site.  Clark Webb, manager and son of owner Wesley Webb, used the truck to fill the 2000 gallon underground cistern located on the drive-in property.  From the cistern, the water was pumped into the drive-in water lines as needed.  When the residential area extended to the Holiday Twin's Eastern border, the water system was connected to the city of Fort Collins water lines.  The Holiday Twin operated with a septic tank until 1994 when the drain field proved to inadequate to handle the flow.  That year the drive-in connected to the Fort Collins sewer system.

When Webb purchased the drive-in in 1979, he was operating four other drive-in theaters in Utah as well as an indoor house in Colorado.  In August of 2001, Webb sold the last of his outdoor theaters and only the Holiday Twin Drive-In remains today.  Mr. Webb has repeatedly vowed he will not part with the Holiday Twin.

Over the years numerous improvements have been made to the Holiday Twin Drive-In.  In 2003 an entirely new women's restroom facility was constructed and a handicap accessible facility was installed.  In 2005 the men's room was re-designed and re-constructed to accommadate the ever-increasing traffic at the theater.  In 2007 a partial remodel of the snack bar began with a completion date of 2008.  The parking ramps have been restored and covered with recycled asphalt to reduce dust and provide better alignment of vehicles to the screen.  The highest quality Xenon bulbs are used to produce excellent picture quality on the large screen towers.  All of these improvements have added to the enjoyment of the theater for the patrons at the drive-in.
